Community Assisted Response & Engagement (CARE) is hiring Community Crisis Responder Supervisors as part of the expansion of the Community Crisis Response (CCR) Unit. These positions will be responsible for being the first-line supervisors for a team of CCR I & II responders and will report to the Community Crisis Responder Manager.

CARE manages Seattle’s 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency response, working with other Public Safety Departments, including Seattle Police and Seattle Fire, to ensure a safe and healthy community. CARE expands the city’s ability to enhance public safety through Dual Dispatch, which provides additional mental health professionals to respond to people experiencing non-violent mental health crises or quality of life concerns.

Seattle 9-1-1 processes more than 900,000 telephone calls for service annually, the majority of which result in the dispatch of police, fire, rescue, and Community Crisis Responders.

The CCR Units operate on shifts to ensure citywide coverage seven days a week. Community Crisis Responders will be scheduled for 40 hours a week with the potential for overtime.

Supervise and guide daily activities of Community Crisis Responders to ensure effective crisis intervention. Mentor staff, address performance issues, and ensure compliance with policies. Conduct evaluations and implement corrective actions in coordination with the CCR Manager. Oversee scheduling and staffing to ensure adequate coverage and efficient use of resources. Enter schedules and timesheets into the system accurately and timely, ensuring all data is up-to-date and compliant with organizational standards,

in concert with the CCR Manager.

Triage service requests and assign cases to CCR teams in concert with CARE 9-1-1 dispatch based on priority and staff expertise. Reassign units as needed and act as the main contact for field staff to provide guidance and ensure safety.

Provide guidance and support to CCR teams handling mental, behavioral, social, or emotional crises. Recommend care plans, resource placement, and follow-up strategies, and handle complex cases requiring escalation.

Manage and maintain a list of community resources for mental health, behavioral health, homelessness, and other crises. Guide CCRs on appropriate referrals and continuously evaluate resource effectiveness by tracking client outcomes.

Monitor daily operations to ensure adherence to protocols, safety standards, and policies. Report on case outcomes, staff performance, and operations to the CCR Manager. Maintain supply inventory in coordination with the finance team.

Recommend and enforce updates to policies and protocols to improve crisis response. Ensure staff compliance, provide coaching, and inform the CCR Manager of needed actions for performance issues.

Maintain communication with stakeholders, including service providers, community organizations, and city departments. Represent the CCR team in meetings and ensure clear communication from dispatchers to CCR units.

Oversee documentation of client interactions, assessments, and service plans to ensure compliance with standards. Review reports and provide regular updates on team activities, resources, and outcomes to department leadership.

Dispatch CCR teams to crisis scenes and maintain communication with dispatchers and first responders. Align deployment strategies with broader public safety goals in collaboration with leadership.

Perform additional duties as assigned, including special projects, community meetings, departmental initiatives, and Clinical supervision for licensure hours as applicable.

Qualifications

Requires a master’s degree in social work, Psychology, or related field; two years’ experience working with individuals with mental, behavioral, and / or emotional health concerns; and at least one year of lead and / or supervisory experience (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Current Washington State driver’s license.

Licensing from the Washington State Department of Health such as Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker or equivalency.

Background Check Requirement

Selected candidates are required to pass a background check.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

Working experience with DSHS workers, chemical dependency treatment providers, mental health providers, healthcare providers, shelter providers, landlords, detox centers, medical clinics and other community programs which may support vulnerable participants.

Effective communication skills including written, active listening, and non‑verbal communication.

Effective skills in case investigation and management, evaluation of facts/circumstances and clients and crisis management.

High cultural and emotional intelligence. Strong commitment to dignity and respect for all persons.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work is partly performed in a busy 24/7 call center environment.

Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.

Required to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Required to work rotating shifts.

Required to be exposed to adverse weather conditions.

Exposed to toxic / hazardous / biohazard substances.

Required to operate automotive vehicles.

Required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Work involves sensitive contact with people who are in crisis and / or may be utilizing substances.

Compensation and Benefits This position is a non-represented position and is part of the City of Seattle Step Progression pay program. The full salary range (Step 1-5) for this position is $55.32, $57.54, $59.81, $62.02, $64.43 per hour.
