Job Title:
Vice President of Construction
A fast‑growing, well‑funded data center operator is building its first major campus in Texas, an 85MW Phase 1 with an additional 60MW starting shortly and multi‑hundred‑MW expansions ahead. Backed by a strong investment partner and with 500MW+ grid allocations under evaluation, the company is scaling rapidly and is hiring a VP of Construction to build and run its construction program from the ground up.
This is a hands‑on, execution‑driven leadership role for a builder, not a hyperscaler “oversight” manager. The ideal candidate is a cradle‑to‑grave construction leader with deep data center delivery experience, a startup mindset, and the ability to establish processes, teams, and standards from zero.
You will work directly with the CEO, COO, and CDO, driving projects from pre‑lease through commissioning, establishing procedures, scaling a lean internal team, and helping build a next‑generation data center platform.
Responsibilities
Build the company’s entire construction program—processes, tools, workflows, and standards
Lead site development and vertical construction for Austin/Georgetown projects
Own budgets, schedules, and performance metrics from early concept through commissioning
Ensure projects deliver on time and under budget with a hands‑on, field‑driven approach
Coordinate closely with executive leadership, operations, finance, and the investment team
Pre‑Construction & Planning
Lead contractor selection, RFPs, bid evaluations, and early design coordination
Conduct constructability reviews and oversee construction documentation
Develop full project schedules (Primavera / MS Project) and pre‑construction roadmaps
Drive value engineering, procurement strategies, and cost efficiency
Execution Oversight
Manage day‑to‑day site activity; maintain a heavy on‑site presence in year one
Oversee RFIs, submittals, change orders, and QA/QC processes
Interface with permitting authorities, utilities, design teams, and trade partners
Proactively identify risks and implement mitigation plans
Build a lean and highly effective project delivery organization
Hire and mentor PMs, engineers, and construction staff as growth accelerates
Represent the project in front of clients, investors, and partners
Establish a culture of accountability, speed, and execution excellence
Qualifications
15+ years of construction experience, with the last 5 years in data center
Full cradle-to-grave direct data center construction experience
Currently working in the data center sector
Proven ability to build processes and programs, not just manage GCs
Hands‑on builder mentality; thrives in startup or high‑growth environments
Experience delivering $250M+ mission‑critical or industrial projects
Ability to spend ~50–60% of time on‑site in Austin/Georgetown
Ground‑floor leadership role
with massive scaling ahead (2GW+ pipeline under review)
Direct influence on company strategy, hiring, and long‑term development standards
Ability to build a construction program from 0 → 1
100% company‑paid medical insurance
Meaningful equity,
aligned with founders
Strong support from executive leadership with immediate interview availability
