Our client is seeking a Legal Counsel to join a rapidly growing fintech firm in New York, NY. You'll contribute to a knowledgeable, supportive team driving international growth and delivering sophisticated solutions to top financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities In the capacity of Legal Counsel within this esteemed financial technology organization based in New York City, you will be integral to guiding the company through intricate legal landscapes as it pursues international expansion. Your responsibilities will encompass providing expert guidance on diverse subject areas such as data privacy and intellectual property protection. You will work collaboratively with senior leaders to ensure all business initiatives are underpinned by robust legal frameworks. By reviewing and negotiating critical commercial agreements—including those related to software licensing and consulting—you will play a vital role in safeguarding organizational interests while facilitating innovation. Your ability to thoughtfully assess risks and contribute meaningfully to policy enhancements will be essential for maintaining compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

Offer daily counsel on a wide array of legal matters encompassing confidentiality, data privacy, regulatory compliance, employment law, intellectual property considerations, general commercial issues, and risk management strategies.

Review, draft, and negotiate various commercial agreements such as non‑disclosure agreements (NDAs), software licensing contracts, SaaS agreements, service contracts, consulting arrangements, technology licenses, and other operational documents.

Support legal matters pertaining to U.S. broker‑dealer operations and assist with securing regulatory approvals necessary for business expansion into new international jurisdictions.

Collaborate closely with senior management to address both legal and business requirements across the organization while maintaining open channels of communication and fostering trust.

Advise on strategic risk assessment processes and contribute to the development of effective mitigation plans that safeguard the organization's interests whilst supporting responsible growth.

Work in concert with cross‑functional teams to ensure legal compliance in all facets of product development and service delivery within the financial technology sector.

Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of internal policies and procedures by providing considered feedback informed by your legal expertise.

Participate in training sessions designed to augment organizational knowledge regarding key legal topics pertinent to the business.

Assist in managing relationships with external counsel when specialized advice or representation is required for complex matters.

Maintain current awareness of changes in relevant laws and regulations affecting financial technology companies operating globally.

Key Requirements The ideal candidate for the Legal Counsel position possesses substantial experience navigating complex legal challenges within either private practice or corporate environments. Your background should demonstrate familiarity with regulatory frameworks relevant to financial technology organizations—particularly those involving broker‑dealer activities or data privacy concerns. Previous involvement with broker‑dealer operations or navigating data privacy regulatory issues would be considered advantageous, though not obligatory.
