General Summary of Position

The Utility Worker is responsible for maintaining kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils. The general responsibilities include the items listed below, and additional duties may be identified by MedStar/Sodexo. Responsibilities may differ among accounts depending on business necessities and client requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Wash dishes by hand or place them in a dishwashing machine, and may wash pots.
  • Wash work tables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks.
  • Sweep, mop, clean, and vacuum floors.
  • Remove trash and garbage to designated areas.
  • Transfer supplies and equipment within and between storage and work areas such as pantry and dish room.
  • Clean equipment using specific chemicals to ensure sanitary standards.
  • Polish silver.
  • Attend all allergy and food‑borne illness in‑service training.
  • Comply with all MedStar/Sodexo HACCP policies and procedures.
  • Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Comply with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments.
  • Attend training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adhere to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Comply with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate; serve on committees and represent the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

  • Prior work experience not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • The incumbent must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • The incumbent must present self in a highly professional manner, uphold honesty and ethics, maintain a positive attitude, and communicate with co‑workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
  • The incumbent must maintain a professional relationship with all coworkers, vendor representatives, supervisors, managers, customers, and client representatives, and provide clear directions and responses to co‑workers.

Hiring Range

USD $18.00 - $29.74 /hr.
