Base pay range: $29.74/hr. Hiring range: $18.00–$29.74/hr.

About the Job

The Utility Worker is responsible for maintaining kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils. Duties include:

  • Wash dishes by hand or in a dishwashing machine. May wash pots.
  • Wash work tables, walls, refrigerators, and meat blocks.
  • Sweep, mop, clean, and vacuum floors.
  • Remove trash and garbage to designated areas.
  • Transfer supplies and equipment within and between storage and work areas such as pantry and dish room.
  • Cleans equipment using specific chemicals to ensure sanitary standards.
  • Polishes silver.
  • Attend all allergy and food-borne illness in-service training.
  • Comply with all MedStar/Sodexo HACCP policies and procedures.
  • Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Comply with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments.
  • Attend training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Contribute to the achievement of established department goals and adhere to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards; comply with government and accreditation regulations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate.
  • Serve on committees and represent the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

  • Prior work experience not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Present self in a highly professional manner and uphold honesty and ethics.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional relationships with co‑workers, vendor representatives, supervisors, managers, customers, and client representatives.
  • Provide clear directions and responses to co‑workers.
