Posting Summary Rutgers School of Health Professions (SHP) is seeking a Program Support Specialist (Student Counselor) to work in the Dean’s Office—Administration.

Roles and Responsibilities

Assists the Office of Enrollment Management with various data collection and reporting with respect to the recruitment and retention of students.

Will provide academic, career, financial, and personal counseling on an individual & group basis to students through individual counseling sessions or group sessions.

Responsible for monitoring the academic progress of students through the use of monthly progress reports. Meets with students and provides feedback regarding academic performance and will document each counseling session.

Responsible for maintaining student files and documents summary of counseling contacts on Counseling Contact forms. Sends counseling contact information to Staff Assistant for log completion of statistical reports.

Will conduct weekly and monthly outreach activities to students that fall below a 3.0 grade point average, are not meeting academic action plan participation requirements, and any student who is in violation of the University’s Code of Conduct policies.

Tutor referrals and reports to Assistant Directors requests.

Assists in recruiting and supervising tutors and coordinates group and individual tutoring sessions. Will assess tutors regularly regarding student assistance and follow-up with students who the tutor may deem as academically under‑performing.

Makes students aware of all required deadlines including FAFSA deadlines, other financial aid requirements, registration, and graduation deadlines. Assists in providing information to students on financial aid matters including state and federal grants, scholarships, and loan programs.

Assists in the coordination of all aspects of student success activities. Identifies workshop topics and facilitators.

Will assist in the coordination of topics to be presented during professional development workshops for students each month.

Assists in the design and continuous updating of information on the Student Success webpage and CANVAS Shells.

Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in Counseling, Student Personnel Services, or closely related field plus two (2) years of administrative experience (5 years preferred) in a government agency, university setting, or large business office with responsibility for office management, preparation of reports and budgets, supervision of staff, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be proficient in computer applications as required by the department.

Excellent communication and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with disadvantaged students, student recruitment, and financial aid is desirable.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Standing, sitting, walking, talking, and hearing.

No special vision requirements.

Must be able to lift or exert force up to ten (10) pounds.

Office environment; moderate noise.

Salary Minimum Salary: $61,512.00 Mid Range Salary: $73,603.00 Maximum Salary: $87,239.00

Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or discontinuation, and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System.
