Join us to leverage your expertise in network and Unix systems engineering to deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions while driving the stability of AWS’s next‑generation IP networks. The AWS Infrastructure Services team owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Work closely with automation teams to define tools that enable higher‑volume scaling.
Lead network projects, including sustaining engineering, deployment/implementation, scaling, technology refresh, and optimization.
Provide critical network support to diagnose, mitigate impact, and resolve large‑scale networking events for AWS customers.
Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configuration issues, including low‑level application interaction, Unix systems, and advanced networking tools.
Partner with the broader network/infrastructure organization on engineering, configuration standards, and tools.
Assist with rollout of new designs and products and sustain networking software tools.
Maintain tooling standards and ensure compliance with policies.
Deliver repeatable solutions and processes.
Create and review documentation for network implementation, deployments, recurring issues, SOPs, and knowledge transfer.
Typical Day
Participate in a 24x7 on‑call rotation and handle critical events.
Manage customer incidents, resolving problems under pressure.
Spend scheduled hours at the desk with high alertness and detail orientation.
Travel to data centers, network sites, and Amazon or customer offices as needed.
About the Team The Backbone, Enterprise, and Regional Engineering (BERE) organization designs, implements, and operates global networking infrastructure that connects all AWS regions and edge locations. Basic Qualifications
3+ years of experience in large‑scale networking environments.
4+ years of network, system, or software architecture expertise.
4+ years of technical support or resolution of escalated customer issues.
1+ year of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, or Perl.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals (BGP, OSPF, etc.).
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication.
Experience in networking administration, troubleshooting, Linux, and protocols.
Experience with network, system, or software architecture.
Knowledge of network design, protocols, and troubleshooting.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Perl, Python, or JavaScript.
