Primary Purpose The AME is responsible for the reliability of the substations which includes:

the equipment supporting the electrical grid

the building infrastructure, e.g. plumbing, roofs, masonry

security, e.g. perimeter fencing/walls, badge readers, camera operation

vegetation management

security issues, e.g. motion alarms generated from vegetation

vegetation growing into equipment

Distribution Underground, Distribution Overhead, Transmission Overhead and Underground – when applicable

Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties The AME acts as the eyes and ears for the Equipment Specialists and relays information from the field to identify and support equipment issues.

The AME works with Project Management to identify possible problems with a project. This is performed on a station project walk down and through conference calls.

The AME works with Transmission & Substation Engineering for service requests, projects, and other concerns with the station and the station’s unique properties.

The AME works intimately with the SC FLS, the SC crew leaders, TG, and other departments that routinely perform work in the substation.

Job Scope The AME works with other departments at ComEd, for example:

External Affairs/Governmental Affairs – Usually following up on Aldermanic complaints

LCS – Usually following up on customer issues

Facilities – see above under substation responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems. Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory. Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.

Zero to two years of professional engineering experience

Limited knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform routine assignments for a specific discipline installation, or service.

Preferred Qualifications Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.

Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $71,200.00/Yr. – $97,900.00/Yr.
