Area Maintenance Engineer – Substations (Entry Level) – Chicago North
Primary Purpose
The AME is responsible for the reliability of the substations, including equipment supporting the electrical grid, building infrastructure, security, vegetation management, and related field support. The position may require extended hours, including 24/7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

The building infrastructure (e.g., plumbing, roofs, masonry)
Security (perimeter fencing/walls, badge readers, camera operation)
Vegetation management, including monitoring motion alarms and vegetation growth near equipment
Distribution Underground, Distribution Overhead, Transmission Overhead and Underground – when applicable
Primary Duties
The AME acts as the eyes and ears for the Equipment Specialists and relays field information to identify and support equipment issues.
Work with Project Management to identify possible problems during a station project walk‑down and through conference calls.
Collaborate with Transmission & Substation Engineering on service requests, projects, and other concerns related to the station and its unique properties.
Work closely with the SC FLS, SC crew leaders, TG, and other departments that routinely perform work in the substation.
Job Scope
External Affairs/Governmental Affairs – follow up on Aldermanic complaints
LCS – follow up on customer issues
Facilities – support substation responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering; ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems; knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices.
Zero to two years of professional engineering experience.
Limited knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform routine assignments for a specific discipline installation or service.
Preferred Qualifications Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
