What To Expect Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Equipment Engineer to join our Model Y Castings team, responsible for the performance and reliability of large-scale aluminum die-casting, and post casting machining processes (Deburr and CNC machining). In this role, you will work cross-functionally with Maintenance, Process, Controls, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to maximize equipment uptime, support capacity expansion, and lead data-driven improvements. You will be instrumental in ensuring casting equipment meets Tesla’s world-class standards for safety, quality, and efficiency.
What You’ll Do
Own the health and performance of casting and RPC equipment (preferred 9+ axis CNC)
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment downtime and chronic issues
Define and optimize preventive maintenance plans and spare parts strategies
Perform machine offsets, tool length adjustments, and part probing to ensure dimensional accuracy
Support commissioning, installation, and ramp-up of new equipment and tooling
Monitor and analyze KPIs such as OEE, MTTR, and MTBF to identify improvement opportunities
Develop and maintain technical documentation including equipment BOMs, work instructions, and troubleshooting guides
Ensure compliance with safety protocols and drive FMEA, risk assessments, and LOTO adherence
Analyze and optimize cycle times, tool paths, and machining parameters for efficiency and quality
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience or equivalent in Equipment Engineering, preferred in CNC, die casting, injection molding, stamping, heavy manufacturing
Hands‑on experience with large industrial machinery (hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, and thermal systems)
Proficient in interpreting mechanical and pneumatics schematics
Familiarity with automation systems, PLCs (Siemens and Allen‑Bradley) and FANUC Robots
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in fast‑paced production environments
Comfortable with data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, PowerPoint and MS Projects)
Experience working in a high‑volume automotive or aerospace manufacturing environment preferred
Experience with advanced multi‑axis milling equipment such as Haas, Mazak, or DMG Mori preferred
Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification, exposure to Tesla production systems is a strong plus
