position within the Unclaimed Property unit, which is part of the Taxpayer Account Administration (TAA) division in Spokane, WA. Taxpayer Account Administration (TAA) Division Overview Taxpayer Account Administration (TAA) is a division of Revenue that administers many programs, including forest excise tax, fish tax, cigarette and other tobacco products taxes, local sales tax, tax incentives, and reseller permits. Additionally, the division is responsible for the distribution of state and local taxes, ensuring compliance with the Revised Uniform Unclaimed Property Act, and returning unclaimed property (UCP) to the rightful owners. Telework and Travel The duty station is in Spokane, Washington, and the successful candidate will need to travel to the Tumwater office one day per month for critical job duties. Details of teleworking considerations will be addressed during the interview process.

Unclaimed Property Auditor Responsibilities Primarily performs statewide field audits, independently evaluating business activities and accounting records to determine if reporters comply with the Uniform Unclaimed Property Act and have correctly reported their liability. Additionally, you will arrange and conduct compliance consultation visits of business entities to ensure they have complied with the Unclaimed Property Act. This position requires travel to business locations around the state to conduct unclaimed property compliance audits, give speaking presentations and training on unclaimed property reporting, and conduct educational consultation visits. The incumbent can also expect to assist supervisors, revenue agents, leads, examiners, and support staff in resolving complex issues regarding the reporting and remittance of unclaimed property.

Travel and Vehicle Note - It is expected that the position will have some overnight travel and require the use of a personal vehicle for work if a state vehicle is unavailable.

Preference Criteria

One year as an Excise Tax Examiner 3, OR

Two years of Department of Revenue experience at the senior or lead level in accounting, auditing, compliance, tax administration, or unclaimed property, OR

Six years of non‑Department of Revenue experience at the senior or lead level in accounting, compliance, auditing, tax administration, or unclaimed property provided 6 semester (9 quarter) hours of accounting, business law, money and banking, or finance coursework has been completed.

Bachelor’s degree involving major study in business or public administration, or a closely allied field.

Advanced working knowledge of KAPS.

Understanding of Washington Unclaimed Property Laws.

Intermediate knowledge of laws, rules, policies, and procedures related to the Department of Revenue.

Experience in auditing or a closely allied field.

Experience in state unclaimed property programs or escheatment.
