Staff Physician - Ophthalmologist (Glaucoma Specialist)
Location: South Carolina, United States
Pay range: $123,077.00/yr - $400,000.00/yr
Summary The facility provides care to approximately 91,000 veterans in the midlands and upstate SC. CBOCs are located in Anderson, Greenville, Spartanburg, Florence, Orangeburg, Sumter, and Rock Hill, and provide primary care, mental health, and telemedicine services. Dorn VAMC is affiliated with the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Medicine and provides teaching services for students and residents.
Qualifications
United States Citizenship
Doctor of medicine or equivalent in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA‑approved school
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or D.C.
Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification
Preferred: Board Certified in Ophthalmology, fellowship trained in Glaucoma, prior experience staffing residents in clinic and surgery, preferably VA, operative experience in cataract surgery
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Physical requirements: able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Duties
Evaluate new patients – walk‑in, consults from other services, ED referrals
Provide clinic evaluations and treatment for scheduled new and follow‑up patients, including referrals to clinical services when necessary
Follow up labs and/or imaging (OCT, angiogram, CT, MRI, visual fields, etc.)
Supervise residents in clinics, reviewing assessments and treatment plans
Teach and supervise surgical procedures to residents (retina, glaucoma, post‑cataract lasers, injections, other minor surgeries)
In‑lens calculations and teaching/couching operating room procedures (cataract, glaucoma, retina surgery)
Respond to patient messages or calls, providing instructions and answering questions
Participate in operative procedures
Work schedule: Monday‑Friday 8:00 am‑4:30 pm; night and weekend rotational call; operative and clinical time
Schedule subject to change based on facility needs
