The Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies seeks a Business Administrator (BA) to provide comprehensive administrative and financial support, ensuring smooth operations and fiscal accountability.
Job Overview The BA manages complex financial operations, human resources, and departmental administration. Responsibilities include budget management, payroll reconciliation, purchasing, grant support, faculty appointments, event coordination, and record maintenance. The BA reports directly to the Department Chair and collaborates with the Dean’s Office and other university units.
Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
Managing all aspects of financial operations for the department, including procurement, purchase orders, contracts, expense reports, reimbursements, journal entries, and cost transfer requests.
Managing all aspects of course scheduling and academic operations.
Working with faculty and support staff on the management of internal and philanthropic research funds and externally funded grants.
Maintaining records for staff and faculty hires, term renewals, costing allocations, and terminations in GMS, Box, and other databases.
Providing administrative support to the Department Chair and faculty.
Providing training and coordinating tasks for other administrative staff.
Analyzing and interpreting applicable regulations, guidelines, and standards to provide expert advice.
Overseeing hiring processes and paperwork for all hires including faculty, instructors, student workers, and graduate teaching assistants.
Work Interactions The BA serves as the main portal into the department, interacting with faculty, staff, students, and external partners. Professionalism, cordial relationships, and helpful attitudes are essential. The BA works closely with the Department Chair and frequently interacts with the Dean’s Office, Registrar, University Information Services, Office of Global Services, Graduate Services, and JORA.

Requirements And Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of professional work experience, preferably in an academic setting, and prior experience with grants management.
Ability to work on campus 4 days per week.
Experience in managing administrative operations, leadership, and budget oversight.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, macros) and familiarity with database queries.
Strong communication skills; ability to learn quickly and be resourceful.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Familiarity with website management, social media analytics, CourseLeaf, Cognos, and Workday preferred.
Knowledge of Georgetown University financial and human resources procedures preferred.
Experience administering a university department, including purchasing, ordering, scheduling, and reporting.
Pay Range $47,586.00 – $87,558.13
