Anesthesia Technician Location: Palo Alto, CA – 500 Pasteur Drive (Onsite).

Full‑time, Rotating – 08 Hour shift.

Department: Anesthesia.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Abide by all Joint Commission Requirements, including sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights, ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, ongoing education and training, communication, adherence to safety and quality programs, compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, licensure and health screenings.

Perform all duties in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

Actively participate in quality control, quality assurance, and preventative maintenance activities.

Assist in the evaluation of new products by providing feedback on usage.

Assist with record keeping and patient charges.

Ensure replacement or repair of malfunctioning equipment.

Attend and participate in equipment and supply in‑services, evaluations, and staff meetings.

Contribute positively to unit and department culture; support team culture.

Correctly check and set up all equipment and supplies used by the Department of Anesthesia, including anesthesia machines, monitors, invasive lines, non‑controlled pharmaceuticals and other tasks requested by Anesthesia.

Identify and share recommendations for cost containment in assigned area.

Maintain effective working relationships with staff, managers, physicians, patients and their families.

Maintain and service equipment by cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, testing, troubleshooting, requisitioning, and receiving inspections and maintenance.

Assist the anesthesia provider with intra‑operative fluid management including volume resuscitation.

Participate in monitoring and documenting quality improvement issues.

Participate on unit, department or hospital committees as requested.

Perform housekeeping/stocking duties to maintain a clean, safe work environment.

Practice aseptic techniques according to established standards of care and infection control policies.

Prepare and maintain patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia.

Prepare and operate autotransfusion equipment.

Proactively use the problem‑solving process to identify, prevent or resolve inter‑ or intra‑departmental problems.

Properly dispose of non‑controlled pharmaceuticals.

Perform self‑assessment of skill level and seek resources to learn new skills, equipment, or procedures to maintain currency in position.

Support administrative decisions and assure implementation and compliance with all department, institutional and regulatory policies and procedures.

Work with clinical educator to orient new staff members and students to the role of anesthesia technician as requested.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

One (1) year of directly related work experience.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

Ability to be flexible in assignments.

Ability to learn and evaluate new equipment and procedures quickly.

Ability to provide appropriate care based on the needs of the individual, taking into consideration age, culture, and developmental issues.

Ability to respond with flexibility to unusual and emergent situations, remaining calm in stressful and emergency situations.

Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the job.

Ability to work independently and prioritize duties during times of stress.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds.

Knowledge of location, operation, calibration, and maintenance of anesthesia equipment and supplies.

Knowledge of operating room procedures, aseptic techniques and infection control policies.

Base Pay Scale Generally starting at $42.51 - $47.67 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
