Position: Relief Anesthesia Technician at Stanford Health Care, Palo Alto, CA (500 Pasteur Dr.).
Job type: Part‑time, rotating 8‑hour shifts, per diem, union (SEIU). Salary: $43.51 – $48.67 per hour (final pay based on experience, education, specialty, and internal equity).
Job description: The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for clinically supporting the activities of the Department of Anesthesia. Responsibilities include provision of supplies and equipment, performing indirect patient care tasks that ensure safe and cost‑effective delivery of anesthetic patient care, and maintaining equipment and instruments.
Essential Functions
Abide by Joint Commission requirements and Service Standards of the Hospital(s).
Participate in quality control, quality assurance, and preventative maintenance activities.
Assist in evaluating new products by providing feedback regarding use.
Assist with record keeping and patient charges.
Ensure replacement or repair of malfunctioning equipment.
Attend and participate in equipment and supply in‑services, evaluations, and staff meetings.
Contribute positively to unit and department culture.
Correctly check and set up all equipment and supplies utilized by the Department of Anesthesia, including anesthesia machines, monitors, invasive lines, and non‑controlled pharmaceuticals.
Identify and share recommendations for containing costs in the assigned area.
Maintain an effective working relationship with staff, managers, physicians, patients, and families.
Maintain and service equipment by cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, testing, troubleshooting, requisitioning, receiving inspections, and maintenance.
Assist the anesthesia provider with intra‑operative fluid management.
Participate in monitoring and documenting quality improvement issues.
Participate on unit, department, or hospital committees as requested.
Perform housekeeping/stocking duties to maintain a clean, safe work environment.
Practice aseptic techniques according to established standards of care and infection control policies.
Prepare and maintain patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems before, during, and after anesthesia.
Operate auto transfusion equipment.
Use problem‑solving processes to identify, prevent, or resolve inter‑ or intradepartmental problems.
Properly dispose of non‑controlled pharmaceuticals.
Conduct self‑assessment of skill level and seek resources to learn new skills, equipment, or procedures to maintain currency in the position.
Support administrative decisions and ensure implementation and compliance with all department, institutional, and regulatory policies and procedures.
Work with clinical educator to orient new staff members and students to the role of anesthesia technician as requested.
