Plant Utilities Engineer 1 (NY HELPS)

New York City Children’s Center, Brooklyn Campus, P27509. Pay Range

Base pay: $56,506.00/yr – $68,630.00/yr. Downstate Adjustment: $4,000. Duties

Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC and mechanical equipment inside and outside the physical plant equipment. Clean, inspect, and maintain boilers. Respond to mechanical, electrical, or plumbing calls and troubleshoot necessary repairs. Conduct boiler, HVAC, and water system testing, analyze results, and adjust chemicals as needed. Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of a heating, HVAC, ventilation, air conditioning, or refrigeration apprenticeship program from the U.S. Air Force. Enlisted machinery technician (MK) with the U.S. Coast Guard or holder of a Marine Engineer certificate issued by the U.S. Coast Guard. Enlisted power generation equipment repairer with the U.S. Army. Enlisted gas turbine systems technician, submarine nuclear propulsion plant operator/reactor control/utilities man, machinist mate, or engineman with the U.S. Navy. Merchant Mariner’s Document (MMD) holder and qualified member of the engine department (QMED) in a role such as oiler, fireman/water tender, refrigerating engineer, or engineman with the U.S. Merchant Marine. Completion of a New York State Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program for stationary engineers, plant maintenance (plumber/steamfitter), HVAC mechanic, or plant maintenance (refrigeration/AC). Possession of a High‑Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer License or Stationary Engineer License. Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Marine Engineering. Four full‑time years of hands‑on experience in commercial or industrial facility maintenance and operation, including HVAC, boilers, or auxiliary equipment, with proficiency in digital energy platforms and building analytics. Four full‑time years of hands‑on experience in a residential setting performing HVAC or boiler diagnosis, repair, or maintenance. Associate’s degree in HVAC plus two full‑time years of hands‑on experience in commercial or residential HVAC/boiler maintenance. Completion of an HVAC certificate or diploma from a BOCES program (900 hours). Completion of an approved certificate in HVAC, electrical, refrigeration, boiler operations and maintenance, or plumbing from an accredited technical school or technology college, plus two full‑time years of hands‑on commercial or residential HVAC/boiler maintenance experience. Within State Service: one year of permanent competitive or 55‑b/55‑c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Benefits
