Job Summary
The Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences (KFSCIS) at Florida International University is seeking a responsible and enthusiastic Student Assistant to support the KFSCIS Transfer Pathways Program. The Transfer Pathways initiative focuses on creating a smooth and successful transition for students transferring from Miami Dade College (MDC) into FIUs computing programs. The Student Assistant will serve as a program ambassador, offer tutoring support for COP 2210 (Programming I), in addition to assisting with management of the programs Discord community, outreach, and student engagement activities. Job Duties: Serve as an ambassador for the KFSCIS Transfer Pathway Program by supporting incoming and prospective transfer students from Miami Dade College. Provide academic support and tutoring for the course COP2800 (Java Programming) at Miami-Dade College. Manage and actively moderate the official
Discord server
used to connect MDC and FIU Transfer Pathways students. Facilitate discussions and share important announcements and program resources. Assist with planning and implementation of student events and workshops (both virtual and in-person). Create student-focused resources (i.e. quick guides, FAQs, and video content) to support Transfer Pathways success. Provide general administrative support including data entry, attendance tracking, outreach email coordination, and
follow-ups. Attend scheduled training and team meetings related to the role.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a
currently enrolled FIU undergraduate student
in good academic standing. Completion of
COP 2800 (Java Programming)
with a grade of
B or higher . Demonstrated interest in helping others and working with diverse student populations. Comfortable with online platforms such as
Discord, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams . Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a peer mentor, tutor, or orientation leader. Knowledge of the MDC-to-KF-SCIS transfer student academic pathway, and some knowledge of student services at FIU. Background in student engagement or event coordination. Experience managing online communities and/or creating digital content.

Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters. During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated. Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
Work Schedule
Up to
20 hours per week , with flexible scheduling based on availability and class commitments. Some evening or weekend hours may be required for events or online engagement.
Advertised Salary
