Position Overview
Landscape Architect at National Park Service—National Mall and Memorial Parks, Washington, D.C. Applications are being reviewed from the first 60 applicants or until 12/22/2025, whichever comes first. All applications received by 11:59 p.m. (EST) on the closing day will be considered.
Responsibilities
Assist with identification, research, planning, treatment, and preservation maintenance of conventional cultural landscapes.
Review, design, treat, and monitor cultural landscapes in coordination with supervisors or higher‑graded specialists.
Develop and maintain effective liaison relationships with related groups, agencies, and the public; attend professional conferences and events.
Identify research needs, conduct documentary research and field investigation, and develop design alternatives.
Coordinate cultural landscape research projects, including documentation, analysis, and evaluation of historical documents, photographs, maps, drawings, and other materials.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below full performance level.

U.S. Citizenship required.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
Participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
Operate a government or private motor vehicle; a valid driver's license is required. Submit a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and driving record, and all certified driving records from all states.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old (or 16 years old with high‑school credentials or equivalent).
All applicants will serve a 1‑year probationary period during which fitness and continued employment will be evaluated.
Basic Qualifications Meet the following basic requirements to be eligible for this position.
Education : A degree in landscape architecture or landscape design.
Combination of Education and Experience : For each year short of graduation, one year of professional experience under guidance is a satisfactory substitute. This experience must have included original landscape design.
GS‑09 Minimum Qualifications
Experience : At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to the GS‑07 level in the Federal service. Experience must include preparing drawings, presentation documents for landscape concept and schematic design, utilizing AutoCAD, and including hours per week worked.
Education : Successful completion of at least two years of progressively higher‑level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or equivalent. Transcripts required.
Combination : Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Transcripts required.
GS‑11 Minimum Qualifications
Experience : At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to the GS‑09 level, including preparing drawings and presentation documents, utilizing AutoCAD, preparing or editing construction specifications, and preparing construction cost estimates.
Education : Successful completion of at least three years of progressively higher‑level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent. Transcripts required.
Combination : Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Transcripts required.
Physical Demands Primarily sedentary with occasional walking, climbing, bending, stooping during fieldwork. Must be able to concentrate and write for long periods.
Working Conditions Performed in an office setting and occasionally in the field as required. Telework is possible with supervisor approval.
