Summary
This position serves as an engineer performing developmental or routine civil engineering assignments. Work includes design, studies, analyses, construction administration, documentation, inspections, assessments, investigations, reviews, cost estimating, writing specifications, and evaluating facility operations.
Duties
Review engineering and architectural design documents.
Perform project monitoring duties on construction projects.
Develop project cost estimates.
Analyze infrastructure systems for deficiencies or improvements.
Coordinate and communicate with staff & stakeholders of various professions.
Conditions of Employment
U.S. Citizenship required.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
Required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
Must operate a government or private motor vehicle; a valid driver's license required. Submit Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
Required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. Uniform allowance provided.
1‑year probationary period for evaluation of continued employment and public interest advance.
Basic Qualifications
Education:
Successful completion of a degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or equivalent coursework, with transcript provided.
Combination of Education and Experience:
Professional registration or licensure as EI, EIT, or PE; or successful passing of FE exam; or 60 semester hours of specified courses; or related curriculum with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (by GS level)
GS‑07:
One year of specialized experience comparable to GS‑5, or one year of graduate‑level education, or a combination, with transcripts.
GS‑09:
One year of specialized experience comparable to GS‑7, or two years of graduate education leading to a master’s, or a combination, with transcripts.
GS‑11:
One year of specialized experience comparable to GS‑9, or three years of graduate education leading to a Ph.D., or a combination, with transcripts.
Physical Demands The work combines office and field assignments, requiring standing, walking, stooping, bending, climbing, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions Work is primarily office-based but includes field site visits that may involve outdoor or industrial environments with associated safety protocols.
