Payroll Director
Base Pay Range:
$120,000.00/yr - $145,000.00/yr

Job Overview The Payroll Director will lead and manage the payroll function for a workforce of approximately 10,000 employees across multiple states and the Caribbean in a highly unionized environment. This role is responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with federal and state regulations, and effective use of the Workday payroll system.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for payroll operations.
Oversee multi‑state payroll for union and non‑union employees.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, local laws, and union agreements.
Partner with HR, Finance, and other departments for smooth payroll integration.
Drive process improvements and automation in
Workday .
Lead, train, and mentor a team of payroll professionals.
Review and analyze payroll reports and metrics.
Address payroll inquiries and resolve issues.
Stay updated on payroll regulations and industry trends.
Manage year‑end processes including W‑2 preparation and distribution.
Maintain payroll data integrity and support audits.
Lead payroll tax planning, reporting, filing, and reconciliation.
Support special projects such as acquisitions, upgrades, and policy changes.
Must‑Have Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field.
10+ years
of payroll management experience in a large, multi‑state, unionized environment.
Experience managing payroll for
5,000+ employees
in a union‑heavy structure.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications such as
CPP ,
HRCI , or related credentials.
