The AWS Network Engineering team builds and operates the global network that delivers cloud services to millions of customers. This role manages a team that designs, optimizes, and operates the enterprise network fabric that supports Amazon’s data centers, corporate office, and partner networks.
Description AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.
Core Networking Team The Core Networking team focuses on building data centers and the network that allows data centers to function efficiently. We own solutions that allow racks to be aggregated and data centers to be interconnected. Our goal is to balance efficiency, performance, and reliability to allow customers access to their applications and data.
Responsibilities
Drive operational excellence through process improvement, measurement, and automation.
Define and manage the strategic vision for a global network fabric team, setting goals and aligning resources.
Own the design and optimization of the future state of the Amazon global network, including topology and capacity planning.
Conduct deep-dive and root-cause analysis of events that impact customers, improving processes and designs to prevent future impact.
Develop and approve network changes, evaluate network issues, and represent those issues at operational management review meetings.
Hire quality personnel, coordinate with recruiting staff, and provide training and career development for the team.
Lead automation initiatives, setting the roadmap to tackle volume, systemic, or critical operational issues.
Maintain performance management and team health, including one-on-one meetings, mentoring, and training coordination.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or above in computer science or equivalent.
5+ years of engineering experience.
3+ years of data center, network engineering, and/or systems engineering experience.
5+ years of people management experience or relevant leadership experience, managing a team of 8+ individual contributors.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of IP networking fundamentals such as BGP, OSPF, and related R&S technologies.
Experience with two or more of the following: networking fundamentals, security, storage or databases, operating systems.
Experience with network, system, or software architecture.
Knowledge of network design, protocols, and troubleshooting.
Experience in scripting languages such as Perl, Python, or JavaScript.

Compensation The base pay for this position ranges from $166,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $272,400/year in our highest geographic market. Additional compensation may include equity, sign-on payments, and other benefits.
