Fire Protection Engineer

About the Role
The Fire Protection Engineer will work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and VA staff to review designs, oversee construction activities, manage documentation, support code compliance, and help ensure project quality and safety within active medical facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Provide fire protection engineering expertise during design, procurement, construction, and post-construction phases
Review drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and change orders for compliance with codes and VA standards
Support the development of project schedules in MS Project or Primavera
Conduct field inspections and verify installation of life safety and fire protection systems
Lead construction progress meetings and provide technical recommendations
Review and track cost estimates, contract documents, and project budgets
Ensure adherence to NEC, NFPA, IBC, and other regulatory requirements
Work collaboratively with government project managers, A/E firms, SME teams, and construction contractors
Prepare detailed written reports, assessments, and project documentation
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil)
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
Minimum 6 years of experience in fire protection engineering, life safety systems design, or code compliance
Experience with federal, commercial, or healthcare construction projects
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple active construction or renovation projects
Strong knowledge of construction methodology and federal building standards
Experience developing government cost estimates and tracking project costs
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
