General Summary/Responsibilities
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Upper Valley Medical Center (UVMC) will lead the implementation and maintenance of the “ideal patient experience” at UVMC. Partner with the Director of Quality and Patient Experience, Chief Nursing officer (CNO), and Hospital leadership to implement and monitor systems and processes that ensure high-quality care, patient safety, and evidence-based medical standards are practiced at UVMC.
In partnership with the Director of Quality and Patient Experience, ensure that all programs are in compliance with Joint Commission, HIPAA, and other accreditation bodies and encompass Premier Health’s efforts with regard to Innovate initiatives in patient safety, quality, and cost and participate in the development of programs and services to improve safety, quality, and service.
Will serve as a site leader of clinical quality innovation at Premier Health; a comprehensive inter-disciplinary approach to achieve care delivery excellence throughout the patient care continuum that measurably improves quality, creates comprehensive, patient-centered care experiences, and reduces healthcare costs by reducing waste and optimizing the value proposition.
Collaborates under the direction of the Premier Health System CMO, CNO and CCO as well as System Support to effectively align people, processes, and technology that enables and supports rapid cycle tests of innovation leading to creative, effective solutions.
Builds and maintains relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, and other clinical leadership.
The CMO will provide direction, oversight, and coordination with the hospital and physician leadership for driving consensus in critical operating decisions including strategy and budget development, financial management, and staffing.
Provides direct supervision to a team of employees. Provides strategic direction for the department that supports the organization’s people, patient experience (quality, safety & service), and medical staff office.
In Partnership with the VP of Acute Hospital Medicine, the CMO will have shared responsibility for the Hospitalists program performance at UVMC to include program operations, financial performance, and clinical outcomes.
Remain connected to the patient experience by scheduling and performing on average 16 -24 hours per pay period of clinical care in area of specialty.
Additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the Premier Health System CMO, CNO, and UVMC President.
Education
Minimum Level of Education Required: Medical Doctorate degree
Additional requirements
Preferred educational qualifications: Master’s in business or healthcare administration
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Active Ohio Medical License; Board Certification in area of specialty
Experience
Minimum Level of Experience Required: 3 - 5 years of job-related experience
Prior job title or occupational experience: Progressive leadership experience
Prior specific functional responsibilities: Hospital or Department Leadership
Preferred experience: Medical Director, Quality Director or Associate Chief Medical Officer
Other experience requirements: Experience in patient safety, quality management and performance improvement.
