Role Summary The Storage Engineer (IPv6 Support) provides advanced administration, maintenance, and engineering support for storage systems within an IPv6-enabled network environment. The role supports the full systems engineering lifecycle—including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation—to ensure high availability, performance, and security of enterprise storage resources. This position requires expertise in configuring storage systems, managing backups, supporting disaster recovery, and enabling IPv6 communication across storage technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Provide overall network and storage engineering support across multiple programs.

Configure, administer, and maintain storage systems, including SAN, NAS, and Direct Attached Storage.

Support requirements analysis, system design, development, testing, deployment, and lifecycle maintenance.

Implement, manage, and verify data backup and recovery solutions.

Monitor storage system performance, health, and capacity; identify and resolve bottlenecks.

Configure storage systems to communicate over IPv6 (in addition to IPv4).

Troubleshoot issues related to storage platforms and IPv6 networking.

Ensure optimal performance, security, and availability of storage resources.

Interact frequently with customers and peer groups; support production activities and work schedules.

Recommend improvements, contribute to policy changes, and support organizational goals.

Provide guidance to junior/non-exempt personnel as needed.

Work independently with limited direction, managing objectives and schedules.

Required Technical Skills

Minimum 5 years of experience providing storage solutions engineering support.

Hands‑on experience with storage management, administration, and maintenance of systems such as

SAN

and

NAS

(referred to as "INAS" in source documentation).

Ability to monitor and analyze storage capacity, performance metrics, and system health.

Experience performing regular backups and executing disaster recovery procedures.

Expertise in configuring and managing:

SAN

NAS

Direct Attached Storage

Ability to configure storage technologies for IPv6 communication (alongside IPv4).

Strong understanding of storage performance monitoring and troubleshooting.

Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have Skills

Strong knowledge of IPv6 networking, including:

Addressing

Routing

Subnetting

Network design

Troubleshooting

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

4+ years of experience in technical tasks related to network or storage engineering (corporate classification requirement).

Minimum 5 years of experience specifically in storage engineering/support.

U.S. citizen or Green Card holder with 3+ years of U.S. residency (required for Public Trust).

Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently with limited direction.

About the Team / Company This role supports the Department of Transportation (DOT) under the Leidos Digital Modernization division (BU 06325). Work is performed onsite at DOT Headquarters in Washington, DC. The position contributes directly to program goals, interacts with government customers, and may lead or mentor others.
