Associate Director, Oncology Innovation

BD Interventional (BDI) focuses on leading innovation and life‑enhancing devices in surgical, endovascular, urological and critical care interventions to advance treatment of high burden diseases and enable surgical and interventional procedures.
Our Peripheral Intervention (PI) business unit offers a comprehensive range of medical products, devices and services for the treatment of peripheral arterial and venous disease, cancer detection, and end‑stage renal disease and maintenance.
Position Summary The Oncology platform is a key business within the Peripheral Intervention (PI) business unit. The Oncology business is committed to driving innovation and is investing in opportunities that will drive the business forward.
The Associate Director, Oncology Innovation will be responsible for shaping BD’s future path forward. This includes developing the long‑term strategy, advancing current projects, and identifying new pipeline opportunities driven by unmet clinical needs.
This role will lead a high‑performing team, define and assess the innovation portfolio, and build a strategic product roadmap which requires understanding business objectives and market segments, cross‑collaboration with strategic partners, and assessing customer and stakeholder needs globally.
Responsibilities
Identify and develop the Oncology innovation strategy with a prioritized pipeline of category‑leading innovation initiatives that provide differentiated breakthrough solutions. Deliver plans to accelerate revenue growth over the ASR and beyond.
Collaborate internally across functions including Marketing, R&D, Medical and Regions and externally by attending conferences, studying trends, understanding guidelines and studies, and working with KOLs to identify customer‑driven insights and opportunities.
Identify and drive key innovation projects through development and commercial processes by leading cross‑functional teams. Work with teams to ensure timely execution and meeting of key deliverables.
Partner with business development on evaluating inorganic opportunities and/or partnerships that enable the innovation strategy.
Manage market research activities to develop fact‑based customer insights.
Analyze market trends, customer insights, and competitive landscape to inform product opportunities and identify opportunities for growth.
Lead market models and operating expenses for organic and inorganic programs.
Work with finance, marketing, and R&D to develop business cases for new product ideas/solutions and assess financial implications, including profitability and viability, for product/market trade‑offs.
Manage, coach, and develop the team.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; M.B.A. preferred.
7‑10+ years of experience in marketing, with a focus on healthcare or medical devices.
Experience managing and developing direct reports.
Proven strategic thinking capability including strong customer focus, needs identification and value proposition development.
Proven analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and business strategies and plans.
Innovative mindset to propose new and creative solutions for continuous improvement.
Experience with innovation processes and driving innovation projects/initiatives.
Experience with business development and inorganic opportunity identification and assessment.
Demonstrated experience in evaluating industry business trends, including innovative and transformative technologies.
Ability to use sound, independent reasoning and judgment to establish work priorities and identify ways to optimize project timelines and mitigate project risks/delays.
Proven track record in developing and implementing new product development programs.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.
Ability to effectively balance multiple competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Proven ability to identify, prioritize, advocate for, and implement opportunities that drive growth or enhance business performance.
Displays strong customer focus, including the development of value propositions, identifying needs, creating training programs, and experience working with the sales force and customers.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data for decision‑making.
Ability to travel ~20‑30% of the time.
