Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing daily accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting cost analysis efforts within a production-focused environment. This position requires strong technical accounting skills paired with an understanding of cost structures and inventory processes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, small-team setting.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Management
Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Maintain, track, and reconcile general ledger accounts.
Prepare year-end financial documentation for tax filings and external accounting partners.
Complete and file monthly sales tax reports.
Cost Accounting & Inventory Control
Develop and maintain cost accounting systems for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
Analyze production variances, material usage, labor efficiency, and related cost drivers.
Provide cost and margin analysis to support pricing and strategic decision-making.
Reconcile inventory accounts and oversee periodic physical inventory counts.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts.
Monitor budget-to-actual performance, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
Support capital expenditure analysis, including ROI evaluations.
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies, controls, and applicable regulations.
Assist with audits and collaborate with external auditors or consultants as needed.
Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Operational Support
Partner with production, procurement, and operations teams to optimize costs and inventory levels.
Support enhancements or implementations of ERP and accounting systems.
Provide financial insights to aid operational planning and decision-making.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
3-7 years of progressive accounting experience; manufacturing or production environment preferred.
Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory management.
Proficiency with ERP/accounting software (e.g., D365 or similar systems).
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and cost modeling.
Exceptional accuracy, organizational skills, and analytical capabilities.
Preferred:
CPA or CMA certification.
Experience with ERP/accounting system implementation or optimization.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles or job costing methodologies.
