Role Description We are seeking a Senior HPC Systems & Storage Administrator in San Diego, CA, for a full‑time, on‑site role that directly supports the mission‑critical data infrastructure associated with the DIII‑D National Fusion Facility, the world’s largest magnetic fusion research tokamak reactor managed by General Atomics. This position requires deploying, managing, and maintaining the high‑performance computing (HPC) systems and high‑throughput storage infrastructure that handles the massive volumes of experimental data collected from the DIII‑D Tokamak. Daily responsibilities involve ensuring optimal system performance tuned for high ingestion rates and analysis workloads, quickly troubleshooting complex technical issues, administering large‑scale data storage systems, and providing expert technical support to fusion scientists, engineers, and researchers—all while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to enhance the reliability and scalability of the IT infrastructure critical for advancing fusion energy science.

Qualifications

Experience with administering and managing High‑Performance Computing (HPC) systems and clusters.

Proficiency in storage management systems, storage area networks (SANs), network‑attached storage (NAS), or other large‑scale storage solutions.

Strong knowledge in Linux/Unix operating systems and shell scripting for automation purposes.

Skills in system monitoring tools and performance tuning techniques.

Understanding of network protocols and configurations relevant to HPC environments.

Experience applying security policies and managing system vulnerabilities.

Ability to collaborate effectively in teams and provide quality support to end‑users, with strong communication and problem‑solving skills.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; equivalent experience is also acceptable.

Previous experience in HPC environments or working with advanced research applications is highly desirable.
