(Exempt | Reports to: General Manager or Executive Leadership)
The Controller oversees all accounting operations, financial reporting, planning, and compliance for the organization. This role ensures the accuracy of financial results, strengthens cost and inventory controls, and provides strategic financial leadership to support business growth. The Controller also ensures full alignment with corporate policies, reporting standards, and best practices.
Core Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Strategy
Partner with executive management to develop and support companywide financial and business strategies.
Deliver accurate, timely financial reporting to internal stakeholders and leadership teams.
Lead annual budgeting and weekly/monthly forecasting; identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
Cost Accounting & Inventory Oversight
Analyze product/job costing, manufacturing performance, and operational trends to identify issues and drive improvements.
Manage valuation of materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods; ensure month-end accuracy.
Oversee cycle counts and the annual physical inventory; assess and document excess or obsolete inventory.
Revenue, Credit & Compliance
Review customer orders for proper revenue recognition in accordance with accounting policy.
Support Sales by reviewing customer credit applications and recommending appropriate limits based on risk.
Maintain strong financial controls, support audit requirements, and manage all tax and regulatory filings.
Systems, Reporting & Process Improvement
Support enhancements to ERP systems, reporting tools, and financial processes.
Implement and refine financial, operational, and IT controls to ensure reliability, compliance, and efficiency.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting function to streamline workflows and strengthen accuracy.
Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance and Accounting team, promoting a high-performance, collaborative environment.
Ensure team alignment with company values, goals, and deadlines.
Skills & Attributes
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and business acumen.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing high-performing teams.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Deep knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
Highly responsive with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
ERP experience (IFS, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and strong Excel proficiency.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
CPA and/or CMA (required).
Minimum 10 years of progressive financial management experience, including strong cost accounting in a manufacturing or production environment.
Experience with ERP systems; ERP implementation experience is a plus.
