Position Overview/Job Summary The Controller is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial operations for the organization. This position serves as the key financial partner to plant leadership, providing strategic insight, financial oversight, and operational guidance. The Controller manages daily accounting functions, ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, and evaluates manufacturing performance to support cost efficiency and process improvement. This role provides strategic financial guidance to executive leadership, leads the accounting team, manages financial risks, and ensures the integrity of financial operations to support business growth and profitability. This role ensures compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and company policies while driving continuous improvement across financial and operational processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical capabilities, deep knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to influence decision‑making in a fast‑paced environment.

Essential Job Functions

Lead and manage the month‑end close process with Shared Services team, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.

Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for the plant and senior leadership, ensuring transparency in financial performance.

Oversee all day‑to‑day accounting operations (AP, AR, Payroll, GL, fixed asset, inventory).

Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Manage month‑end and year‑end close processes.

Develop financial reports, dashboards, and KPIs for management

Develop, update, and analyze monthly forecasts, MRP data, and the annual operating budget.

Present financial results and key insights to management, including trends, risks, opportunities, and cost drivers.

Conduct routine plant walkthroughs with the operations team to evaluate production flow, labor utilization, material consumption, and overhead application.

Review and maintain accurate bills of materials, routings, and standard costing to reflect current manufacturing operations.

Review the direct labor and overhead efficiency for accuracy and update costing standards accurately and timely.

Prepare accurate bill of materials analysis and standards for RFP costing and report accurate Direct Labor and Overheads in financials.

Analyze manufacturing variances and collaborate with operations leadership to identify root causes and corrective actions.

Support the development and execution of cost‑reduction strategies, including process optimization and waste elimination.

Lead the costing process across Harris Spice location(s), including annual standard cost updates.

Prepare rolling forecasts, variance analysis, and financial performance reviews.

Provide financial modelling and scenario planning to support decision‑making.

Maintain and reconcile finished goods inventory, ensuring accurate alignment with production, shipping, and returns. Monitor slow moving inventory and drive action plans to manage inventory balance.

Oversee inventory controls, physical cycle counts, and annual physical inventory processes.

Partner with warehouse, production, and supply chain teams to ensure inventory accuracy and resolve discrepancies.

Implement and uphold strong internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial integrity.

Ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP, corporate accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.

Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and asset tracking.

Develop and document accounting procedures, data flows, and system controls to support accurate and efficient financial operations.

Utilize automated financial systems (IFS experience preferred) to optimize reporting and data extraction.

Conduct monthly review meetings with manufacturing, operations, and finance teams to evaluate plant performance and financial outcomes.

Supervise AP to ensure all early‑payment discounts are captured and oversee AR to resolve deductions, execute finance charge policies, and maintain strong cash flow.

Serve as the primary financial advisor to plant leadership, providing guidance on costing, production efficiency, and financial impacts of operational decisions.

Collaborate cross‑functionally with corporate finance, operations, supply chain, and quality teams to support business objectives.

Support special projects, including system enhancements, process redesign, and financial analysis for strategic initiatives.

Lead annual external audits and coordinate with auditors and tax advisors.

Maintain financial policies, procedures, and documentation. Prepare and enforce finance internal controls through SOPs and execution of policies.

Establish, document, and enforce internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate reporting.

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including sales tax, quarterly tax payments, property tax and payroll filings.

Backfill and interim finance functions for Corporate level entity.

May need to attend occasional early morning (6:30am/7:00am) meetings with global CCS accounting team

Skills/Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.

Minimum 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 3+ years as a Plant Controller or Cost Manager in a manufacturing environment with standard costing.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.

Familiarity/knowledge of IFS ERP software highly preferred

Prior experience in financial leadership or controller‑level role.

Strong working knowledge of cost accounting, manufacturing operations, and inventory management.

Experience using large, automated accounting systems (IFS preferred) and advanced proficiency with Excel and financial modeling.

CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.

Experience in food manufacturing or multi‑entity environment highly desirable.

Experience with inventory accounting, cost accounting, and job costing.

Advanced Excel and financial modelling proficiency.

Demonstrated success collaborating with cross‑functional teams and influencing non‑finance stakeholders.

Exceptional communication skills, capable of presenting complex financial information clearly to both finance and non‑finance audiences.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to work through ambiguous or non‑standardized situations.

Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Expert understanding of cost accounting, financial statements, and variance analysis.

Ability to guide, influence, and support both direct reports and cross‑functional partners.

Commitment to accuracy, data integrity, and quality.

Ability to interpret financial and operational data to drive informed decision‑making.

Clear and effective in both written and verbal communication with all levels of the organization.

Ability to identify inefficiencies and implement better systems, controls, and workflows.
