Position Summary The School of Medicine seeks a board‑certified/board‑eligible (BC/BE) Neurointensivist to join its growing Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) at UNC Medical Center. The clinical team consists of seven neurointensivists caring for a 22‑bed unit that will grow to 33 beds. The applicant will provide primary clinical responsibility in the NSICU and additional attending services for intermediate‑care neurology inpatients and ICU neurology consults. The candidate may join as either a fixed‑term or tenure‑track faculty member.
Responsibilities
Provide primary clinical care in the 22‑bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU).
Attend to intermediate‑care neurology inpatients and respond to ICU neurology consults.
Participate in the academic mission of a US News & World Report 2023 top‑30 medical school, including engagement with research, teaching, and collaborative programs.
Minimum Qualifications
M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school.
Board certified or board‑eligible through the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) of Neurology.
Completion of a neurocritical care fellowship and board certification or eligibility in neurocritical care through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
Eligibility to obtain a North Carolina medical license.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated research interests supported by extramural funding.
Interest in a career that combines neurocritical care with additional services such as clinical neurophysiology, vascular neurology, or neurohospitalist practice.
