Job Overview Senior Telecommunications Engineer at Jacobs manages the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of structured cabling, wireless, audio‑visual, and other low‑voltage telecommunication systems for data center buildings. The role also includes mentoring junior team members and ensuring projects are completed on schedule.
Responsibilities
Lead BIM designers in preparing engineering drawings.
Create or modify DIV 27 specifications.
Conduct site visits and review technical documents.
Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Sign and seal telecommunications design packages.
Mentor and coach other team members.
Work with the lead engineer and/or department manager to improve departmental processes.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Communication Engineering from an ABET accredited college.
Minimum 8 years’ experience designing or leading design of telecommunications structured cabling systems.
Thorough knowledge of ANSI/TIA, BICSI, and NFPA 70 standards.
Proficiency with Bluebeam.
Self‑motivation to coordinate with other disciplines, project managers, and clients.
Excellent project management skills.
Familiarity with responding to RFPs.
Experience in quality assurance and checking telecommunications systems designed by others.
Experience with startup and commissioning of telecommunications systems.
Ability to create and maintain project budgets and schedules.
Experience identifying and mitigating company risk.
PE license required; ability to obtain multiple PE licenses.
Preferred Experience
4 years of telecommunications design experience in Data Centers.
Experience with low‑voltage systems including security, audio/visual, and wireless.
Working knowledge of Revit and Navisworks.
Knowledge of telecom infrastructure for controls and security systems.
Experience with CSI or AIA specification writing procedures.
Credential as an Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD).
