Avionics Cable Harness Design Engineer III – New Glenn Advanced Upper Stage (Fixed‑Term)
Join Blue Origin to work on the development and operations of New Glenn, a heavy‑lift orbital launch vehicle designed for human and payload missions. As a technical leader in avionics, you will design, develop, and qualify mission‑critical harnesses for power, RF, communication, and high‑speed data systems.
This 12–15 month fixed‑term position includes full benefits and offers a chance to influence the future of space exploration.
Responsibilities
Design electrical harnesses for power distribution, RF, communication, and high‑speed data signals.
Select harness components and hardware, connectors, backshells, cable, and wire.
Apply EMI/RFI and harness shielding requirements.
Build 3D routed harness data files using Creo (Pro/Engineer) and Cable and Routed System Designer (RSD).
Create harness detail and installation drawings, including 2‑D flat harness drawings from 3‑D data.
Design and integrate harness support brackets.
Support design configuration development, trade studies, and technical guidance for installation.
Assist in the assembly and testing of cables and harnesses.
Maintain and report activity schedule and technical status.
Identify opportunities for improvement and operational cost and schedule savings.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical or an appropriate engineering field.
5+ years of experience designing wire harnesses for the aerospace industry.
Experience with Creo, Windchill, and Cable and Routed System Designer (RSD).
Understanding of wire derating analysis.
Familiarity with applicable harness standards: IPC/WHMA‑A‑620A, NASA‑STD‑8739.4.
Strong electrical/mechanical design and integration skills using 3‑D CAD software.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Pro/E Piping.
Experience with other high‑end CAD routing software such as Unigraphics NX Electrical and Mechanical Routing.
Knowledge of harness fabrication and installation processes.
Experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft electrical/mechanical systems.
Compensation Washington, AZ applicants: $126,898.00 – $177,656.85.
