Consultant, Environmental Engineer, Scientist / Geologist ERM NewFields is seeking an experienced consultant to perform analysis and design tasks related to soil and groundwater investigations for our Red Bank, New Jersey location. The role is responsible for the characterization, design, and management of soil and groundwater remediation projects in cooperation with a project team. Using various scientific methodologies and disciplines, the Environmental Engineer/Geologist/Scientist will plan, collect, synthesize, and study source data to assess remediation alternatives and compile high‑quality technical reports and presentations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the evaluation of the nature and extent of contamination, risk assessments, and remedial alternatives.

Conduct environmental field investigations and data collection/sampling.

Oversee field activities (drilling, sampling, maintenance activities, and routine testing) and subcontractors.

Conduct site testing, design/optimize remediation systems, and evaluate viable remedial alternatives.

Prepare work plans, cost estimates, project schedules, and proposals for investigation and remedial activities.

Apply standard engineering techniques and procedures for data analysis; compile and assess environmental data using spreadsheets, databases, and GIS.

Prepare accurate and professional technical reports and presentations.

Document research and review related to environmental impacts.

Perform self‑monitoring of QA/QC and review QA/QC of other professionals.

Adhere to ERM NewFields and client health and safety practices and protocols.

Participate in team‑based project work to achieve client satisfaction and on‑time completion of quality technical work products.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.

2+ years’ experience in environmental consulting or a related field.

Knowledge of New Jersey environmental regulations and technical guidance.

Proficiency with MS Office.

Holder of a 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification with an 8‑hour refresher.

Willingness to conduct field work in remote locations and inclement weather.

Capability to work independently and as part of a team.

Acceptance of moderate overnight travel as required.

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform repetitive lifting over prolonged periods.

Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles for travel across the tri‑state area.

Position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

PREFERRED

Experience performing Phase I and II environmental site assessments supporting property transfer transactions per ASTM standards.

Familiarity with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and groundwater transport models such as ModFlow 6 or similar.

For the Consultant, Environmental Geology or Engineering position, the annual base pay range is $74,000 – $82,923 (USD). The range may vary based on education, qualifications, experience, and other factors. In addition, a bonus structure may be available; however, casual and fixed‑term employees are not bonus eligible.
