Forensic Scientist 1,2,3 - Chemistry (12-4260) The Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory (ASCDL) works with the Public Health Laboratory (PHL) to provide toxicology testing services to the State of Alaska. This position will support the DUI toxicology testing program at the PHL and ASCDL.

What You Will Be Doing Support the DUI toxicology testing program. Assist in the analysis of forensic evidence, documentation, and communication tasks in a laboratory environment.

Forensic Scientist 1 Entry level position focusing on progressing through a forensic toxicology training program. Once authorized, may perform independent chemical and/or instrumental testing of toxicology samples.

Forensic Scientist 2 Intermediate position performing independent casework, including chemical and/or instrumental testing. Expected to develop expertise in human performance toxicology interpretation related to driving under the influence.

Forensic Scientist 3 Fully competent in forensic toxicology testing services and interpretation. Provides scientifically supportable toxicology opinions during court proceedings and participates in method validation, OSAC standard review, instrument maintenance, and external stakeholder training.

The Working Conditions You Can Expect Based at the ASCDL in Anchorage, Alaska. The role involves forensic evidence analysis, case documentation, and occasional travel for court appearances, stakeholder training, or continuing education.

FORENSIC SCIENTIST 1 – CHEMISTRY Bachelor’s degree in natural science, physical science, forensic science, criminalistics, or a closely related field.

FORENSIC SCIENTIST 2 – CHEMISTRY Bachelor’s degree in natural science, physical science, forensic science, criminalistics, or a closely related field.

And completion of the State of Alaska flexible staffing plan for the chemistry discipline.

And one year of experience as a Forensic Scientist I with the State of Alaska or an equivalent employer.

Experience and flex plan training may be earned concurrently. One additional year of Forensic Scientist I experience substitutes for flex plan training.

FORENSIC SCIENTIST 3 – CHEMISTRY Bachelor’s degree in natural science, physical science, forensic science, criminalistics, or a closely related field.

And completion of the State of Alaska Forensic Scientist 2 flexible staffing plan for chemistry.

And two years of experience as a Forensic Scientist 2 with the State of Alaska or an equivalent employer.

Experience and flex plan training may be earned concurrently. One year of additional Forensic Scientist 2 experience substitutes for flex plan training.

Special Note Employees will be required to successfully pass annual proficiency/competency tests. Background checks, fingerprinting, and confidentiality agreements are required. Criminal convictions may disqualify applicants.

Flexibly Staffed Combined posting (I/II/III). May be filled at 1, 2, or 3 level based on training/experience. Starting salary corresponds to hired level. Promotion will occur after successful probation, required training, and meeting higher-level qualifications.
