THE JOB Forensic Analytical Crime Lab is seeking a skilled
Sr. Forensic Scientist (Toxicology Consultant)
to join our team of General Criminalist experts. We are looking for an experienced forensic professional with a strong background in toxicology consultation, a commitment to scientific integrity, and a passion for supporting justice through quality forensic analysis.
This part-time role involves direct collaboration with both professional and technical staff to ensure strict adherence to laboratory protocols and the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Reviewing and interpreting results of
previously tested samples
(please note:
no onsite drug testing or sample collection is performed ) for the presence of drugs, alcohol, chemicals, or other substances.
Providing
expert witness testimony
in court.
Collaborating with internal departments and supporting key administrative functions, such as client communication, discovery organization, and case budgeting.

Hybrid, Weekends and Holidays only as needed for court‑related travel

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT To be considered, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Background Check:
Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation. No felony convictions.
Schedule Flexibility:
A hybrid work schedule is typical post‑training; occasional weekends or holidays may be required for testimony.
Licensing:
Must possess a valid California Driver License and provide proof of automobile liability insurance. Real ID or passport required for travel. Licensure as a Clinical Toxicologist with the CDPH, or certification as a diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (DABFT) strongly preferred.
Work Eligibility:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Employment eligibility documentation per I‑9 requirements will be required upon onboarding.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Toxicology, Forensic Science, or a related Natural Science field.
Experience:
At least 5 years of experience working in a forensic laboratory, including the completion of a recognized training program (minimum 2 years) involving analytical work.
Note: Degrees or coursework from institutions outside the U.S. must include an equivalency evaluation by a recognized credentialing agency.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will possess:
At least 5 years of forensic science experience, including forensic training, competency testing, court qualification, and successful completion of proficiency testing.
Familiarity with ISO/IEC forensic accreditation standards.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with sound judgment and discretion.
Additional Skills and Abilities
Ability to review and interpret toxicology and forensic lab reports
Experience analyzing large volumes of discovery material
Comfortable consulting with legal and criminal justice professionals
Strong written communication, including coherent declarations and expert reports
Ability to provide expert testimony in both civil and criminal courts
Willingness to travel within California, across the U.S., and occasionally internationally
