Position Details Hartford Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center and one of the largest and most respected teaching hospitals in New England, is recruiting a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join its Surgical Critical Care team. APPs are essential members of the multidisciplinary team that plans and delivers care for complex surgical and trauma patients in the ICU, covering areas such as complex trauma, transplant, vascular, general surgery, neurosurgery and interventional radiology.
Role Scope Under established guidelines and in collaboration or supervision with the practice physician(s), APPs perform routine physical examinations and formulate medical, educational and psychosocial plans to treat patients. They develop plans for further evaluation, including referrals to other health team members or specialists, and provide appropriate treatment within the scope of their practice as defined by protocols. When a problem falls outside their scope, they refer appropriately to a physician.
Qualifications
Licensure:
Unrestricted State of Connecticut Medical License (or eligible)
Training:
Certified or board‑eligible Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
Experience:
Minimum 1–2 years of recent critical care experience as an APP in an ICU setting. Proven ability to independently manage ICU patients, including ventilator management, resuscitation and performing critical care procedures within the APP scope of practice.
Shift:
Comfortable working independently in a night‑shift environment.
