We are seeking a
SALT, Senior Tax Manager
to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) Practice. This is an exciting opportunity for career growth and development, offering a strong company culture within public accounting. In this role, you will specialize primarily in state income and franchise tax matters, while also gaining broader exposure across state and local tax disciplines.
Core Responsibilities
Manage all phases of state income and franchise tax services, including consulting, controversy, planning, and compliance, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely delivery.
Lead day-to-day project management for various multistate income/franchise tax engagements, including nexus and filing requirement analyses, apportionment reviews, state modifications, combined/unitary reporting evaluations, and voluntary disclosure agreements.
Review state income/franchise tax returns, workpapers, and multistate calculations, including apportionment schedules and reconciliations.
Oversee outsourced state income/franchise tax compliance engagements and assist clients with implementation of relevant technology and process improvements.
Advise clients on multistate income/franchise tax issues, including structuring, tax planning opportunities, due diligence, exposure mitigation, and audit defense.
Research, draft, and review technical memorandums, matrices, and other client deliverables related to income/franchise tax matters.
Manage state tax audits/examinations, including developing response strategies and evaluating potential risk areas.
Support the growth of the SALT practice by monitoring income and franchise tax developments, assisting with thought leadership (articles, webinars, speaking engagements), and working with the team to identify new opportunities.
Collaborate with internal engagement teams in executing cross-functional client deliverables.
Utilize technology and tools in client engagements and participate in technology enhancement initiatives.
Gain exposure to additional SALT areas as needed, including credits and incentives, property tax, unclaimed property, employment taxes, and other state/local issues.
Qualifications/Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or a related field.
CPA, Enrolled Agent, JD/LLM, or other relevant credential preferred.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in state income and franchise tax within public accounting or industry.
Strong analytical, organizational, and teamwork skills with high attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team structure.
Willingness to travel to client locations as needed.
