Environmental Compliance Specialist

Job Summary: Under the direction of the UCSF Environmental Compliance Manager, the Environmental Compliance Specialist helps manage all environmental compliance programs at UCSF including hazardous materials business plans, industrial and stormwater pollution prevention plans, underground and above ground tank programs, and air pollution prevention programs. The position represents the campus during routine inspections by Federal, State and Local environmental regulatory agencies and is responsible for working with UCSF stakeholders to correct any regulatory violations. The position provides regulatory interpretation and technical guidance on environmental issues to the UCSF community which includes contractors working on UCSF property. The position is part of the EH&S Spill Response Team and will be required to serve as the 24/7 on-call EH&S responder periodically on a rotating basis with other team members. Salary Range: $87,200 - $130,800 (Annual Rate). Bachelor's degree in science or engineering related area and minimum three years of experience or equivalent experience or training. Thorough knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable local, state, and federal regulations and related standards and guidelines. Thorough written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and skill to communicate effectively in a diverse environment. Strong analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize and manage the successful completion of projects within time and budget constraints. Strong skill to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required. At least two years of experience working in an Environment Health and Safety Field. Previous experience managing Hazardous Materials Business Plans, Underground Storage Tank Permits, and Air and Water Pollution Prevention Plans for an organization. Ability to respond to calls after hours and on weekends while scheduled to be on-call EH&S Spill Responder. Ability to lift at least 20 pounds and to wear Personal Protective Equipment where required which may include a full face air purifying respirator (APR), Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR), or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Valid California Driver's License. Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification. Preferred Qualifications
