Respiratory Therapist - MGH Mass General Brigham, a not‑for‑profit organization, seeks a Respiratory Therapist for Massachusetts General Hospital. The role is an active member of the patient care team, responsible for assessing, initiating, modifying, and discontinuing therapeutic respiratory procedures for critically ill patients.

Location: 55 Fruit Street, Boston, MA (On site). Weekly hours: 36. Pay range: $31.35 – $46.91 per hour. Sign‑on bonus: 15K. Starting rate: $41.81 per hour.

Job Summary:

Acts as an active member of the patient care team to provide clinical patient care assessment, initiation, modification, and discontinuance of therapeutic respiratory care procedures to critically ill patients. Analyzes and evaluates clinical patient data to determine the appropriate therapy or interventions and makes recommendations on patient care plans to the medical staff.

Essential Functions:

Initiates and/or assists with appropriate respiratory tests and procedures, as ordered, to deliver appropriate care to patients, including moderate complexity point‑of‑care testing for blood gas analysis.

Responds to respiratory emergencies, including high‑risk deliveries, and transports patients as indicated.

Prepares appropriate care plan and makes specific recommendations to physician for indicated therapy. Schedules patient treatments as necessary and provides consultation as an active member of the patient care team.

Manages the administration of all aspects of respiratory therapy according to respiratory care policies and procedures, including NICU‑specific therapies.

Makes regular bedside rounds and administers respiratory care modalities to assigned patients. Modifies treatment care plan according to clinical picture and response to therapy.

Participates in education of students, physicians, staff, patients, and families.

Qualifications:

Education: Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Licenses and Credentials: Respiratory Therapist (Massachusetts) – Massachusetts Board of Respiratory Care required.

Experience: NICU experience 1–2 years preferred. Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Care Specialty (cert) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Subject‑matter expert in respiratory therapy and effective communication with patients, team members, and other healthcare disciplines.

Quick assessment and professional judgment to prepare appropriate care plans, with specific recommendations to physicians.

Strong communication skills.

Ability to walk distances and push medical equipment weighing less than 100 lbs; may also be required to stand immobile for long periods of time.
