Accountant 2 (Senior Property Accountant)
Location: Bethesda, MD (5 days/week in office – flexible hours to accommodate traffic)
Base pay range: $110,000.00/yr - $115,000.00/yr
Position Overview A well‑established, publicly traded real estate organization is seeking an
Accountant II (Senior Property Accountant)
to join its accounting team. This role is responsible for full‑cycle property accounting for a diverse portfolio of retail, mixed‑use, and office properties. The position offers strong exposure to a publicly traded environment, including SEC reporting, while maintaining an excellent work/life balance.
Key Responsibilities
Perform full‑cycle property accounting for an assigned portfolio of properties
Manage month‑end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and preparation of property operating statements
Perform general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare and analyze budget‑to‑actual variance reports
Prepare tax and operating expense recovery billings
Abstract new lease documents into the accounting system (lease administration handled separately)
Assist with quarterly close activities and preparation of supporting schedules for SEC reporting
Research and respond to financial inquiries from senior management during monthly and quarterly closes
Collaborate with property management, collections, and lease analysis teams to resolve tenant‑related inquiries
Assist with training and mentoring junior accounting staff as needed
Support special projects and ad‑hoc assignments
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
required
2–5+ years of accounting experience; real estate accounting experience strongly
preferred
Office property experience is a plus
Open to candidates from public accounting audit/assurance backgrounds
CPA preferred but not required
Experience with Yardi is a plus
Strong Excel and financial analysis skills
Systems‑savvy with the ability to adapt to new tools and processes
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
