Job Description
Cyth Systems is seeking a technically skilled and detail‑oriented Applications Engineer to join our Sales & Engineering team. This role serves as a critical bridge between our technical experts and our customers—developing well‑written, accurate, and persuasive technical proposals that define project scope, design intent, and value. The Applications Engineer collaborates with engineers and sales staff to transform complex system designs into clear, customer‑facing documentation that drives new business.
This is an onsite role based in San Diego, CA.
Essential Functions It is essential to the Applications Engineer role that you possess a strong blend of engineering knowledge, communication ability, and organizational skill. You must be comfortable engaging in technical discussions, understanding system‑level designs, and producing clear, precise written documentation. The role requires initiative, technical curiosity, and the ability to clearly communicate engineering concepts to both internal and external audiences.
Collaborate with Sales Engineers and Project Engineers to create accurate, detailed, and customer‑ready technical proposals.
Translate engineering discussions and technical designs into concise, well‑structured proposals.
Develop content that clearly communicates system architecture, scope, deliverables, and value proposition.
Work closely with engineering teams to validate assumptions and confirm technical feasibility.
Maintain proposal templates, component descriptions, and standard documentation for recurring system architectures.
Support sales presentations by summarizing technical approaches and highlighting key benefits.
Review all proposals for clarity, accuracy, and consistency before submission.
Contribute to process improvements for proposal generation and internal collaboration between sales and engineering.
Required Qualifications & Skills This position requires:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
2–5 years of experience in applications engineering, technical writing, or proposal development.
Strong technical writing and communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management.
Ability to work collaboratively across sales, engineering, and operations teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and CRM tools (Zoho CRM preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing proposals or documentation for complex technical systems.
Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, and embedded control technologies like Data Acquisition, Lab Instruments (scopes, power supplies, signal generators, switches), embedded systems (microprocessors or FPGA’s), etc.
Understanding of companies such as NI (National Instruments), Keysight, Tektronix, Keyence, Parker, Kollmorgen, or similar.
Familiarity with LabVIEW, TestStand, PXI, cRIO.
Prior experience in a services business such as system integration or engineering services.
