Job Description:

Requirement/Must Have:

• Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment if required.
• Minimum of 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Comfortable drawing alone and handling difficult sticks.

Experience:

• Phlebotomy experience.
• Customer service experience.
• Flexibility in work environment.
• Strong phlebotomy skills.

Responsibilities:

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, decontaminate equipment, and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight and butterfly needles.
• Understand and follow all physician orders.
• Match laboratory requisitions to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Verify requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimens at required temperatures and follow proper procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department training.
• Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory result information when appropriate.
