Job Description:
Pay Range: $22.24hr - $24hrResponsibilities:
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, record maintenance data, perform decontamination, and update patient information.
- Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
- Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients.
- Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow all physician orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Verify test requisitions or computer labels for accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport according to protocol.
- Store specimens at required temperatures and ensure proper labeling.
- Follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department training sessions.
- Answer phone calls and communicate laboratory results when required.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification as required by the state of employment.
- Minimum 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2 4 years of relevant experience.
- Phlebotomy experience (1.5 years preferred).
- Experience performing phlebotomy on all types of patients, including difficult (hard stick) cases.
- Experience with specimen types such as urine and thyroid testing.
- Computer skills, data entry, and processing experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage hard sticks and challenging draws.
