What to Expect Tesla is in need of Senior or Staff Mechanical Engineers to design vehicle propulsion rotors. Foster your drive for continuous improvement by increasing performance while reducing energy consumption and balancing cost efficiencies. Come join the driven team working on the most impactful motors in the world. Own taking the hardware designs from concept and ideation to high volume production. You will work with electromagnetic, cooling, lubrication, manufacturing and strategic supply chain teams to optimize designs for next gen vehicle applications.

What You'll Do

3D CAD and 2D drawings for rotors, speed sensing and interconnect assemblies.

Driving choices and development in rotor assembly, magnet technology, steel stamping and lamination joining, interconnections, thermal sensing. Select the optimum candidates for a given project, not just the newest technology.

Identifying and qualifying suppliers of raw materials, components, and assemblies.

Design validation, durability testing profile development and data analysis.

Collaborate with internal motor manufacturing team and help them launch new products to high volume.

Carry designs through to high‑volume production: DFM, cost reductions, and second sourcing.

Visit Tesla powertrain manufacturing facilities for new product ramp up.

Mentoring Junior Engineers and Interns.

What You'll Bring

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Experience taking motor designs from clean sheet to volume production.

Knowledge of multiple magnet technologies.

Understanding of an international supply chain.

Automotive design and validation experience.

Expected skills: GD&T, 3D CAD, 2D Drawings, DFMEA, PFMEA, detailed stack ups, structural and thermal FEA.

Bonus skills: CATIA, NVH analysis, electromagnetics design, specification writing, plastic injection molding, bolted joint design.

Expected Compensation: $106,400 - $206,520/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
