Executive Underwriter / AVP, Underwriting Director – Large Property
Zurich North America is seeking an Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director in our Commercial Insurance team based in our Atlanta office.
As an AVP Underwriting Director in Property, you will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business under general direction using the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of higher technical complexity. This is a market facing position requiring a strong sales execution mindset and knowledge of commercial property policies. You will meet with agents and brokers and be visible in the marketplace, being in the office/market three days per week.
Some of the key accountabilities of this role include:
Administer and monitor underwriting rules, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business related needs.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition and work with customers and distributors to determine insurance related needs and provide solutions.
Support the organization's sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
Qualify accounts to meet the organization's appetite balanced with sound business opportunity.
Make broker/customer and on-sight calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
This role will be filled at either the Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area, OR
Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an associate degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an associate degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience working in a team environment.
AVP, Underwriting Director Level Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, AND
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors Degree.
Technical knowledge of commercial Property underwriting.
Established broker relationships (Retail, select brokers) in Southeast region.
Sales execution mindset.
Creative problem‑solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation Pay range for this position is
$98,300.00 – $213,000.00 , plus short-term incentive bonus of 20%. For Executive Underwriter the proposed rate is
$98,300.00 – $161,000.00
with a 15% bonus. For AVP, Underwriting Director the proposed rate is
$130,000.00 – $213,000.00
with a 20% bonus.
