Executive Large Property Underwriter or AVP, Director Large Property Underwriter
Zurich is seeking an experienced Executive Large Property Underwriter or AVP/Director Large Property Underwriter to join our National Large Property team in our Los Angeles office, with options to be based in San Francisco or Denver. This role will be hybrid, requiring presence in the office/market three days a week.
This position will be filled at either the Executive or AVP/Director level, depending on the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications.
Responsibilities
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business related needs, as appropriate.
Provide guidance to lower level associates.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition; work with customers and distributors to determine their insurance related needs and provide solutions.
Support the sales culture by being a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Complete detailed opportunity assessment with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
Qualify accounts to meet the organization’s appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
Make broker/customer and on‑site calls with a planned and well‑prepared purpose.
Basic Qualifications – Executive Large Property Underwriter
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience working in a team environment.
Basic Qualifications – AVP, Director Large Property Underwriter
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels)
Bachelor’s Degree.
Technical knowledge of Large Property Underwriting.
Established broker relationships (retail brokers) within the Western US region.
Sales execution mindset.
Creative problem solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The combined salary range for this position is $98,300 – $213,000. The proposed salary range for the Director Large Property Underwriter is $98,300 – $161,000, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility of 15%. The proposed salary range for the Executive Large Property Underwriter or AVP is $130,000 – $213,000, with short‑term incentive bonus eligibility of 20%.
