Executive Underwriter / AVP, Underwriting Director – Large Property Zurich Insurance is seeking an Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director–Large Property for our Commercial Insurance team in the Atlanta office. As an AVP/Underwriting Director you will analyze and underwrite new and renewal commercial property business, using the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority and ensuring a high‑level service to customers.

This is a market‑facing position that requires you to be visible in the marketplace, meet with our agents and brokers, and be in the office/market three days per week.

Responsibilities

Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.

Develop, maintain and collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business related needs.

Build and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) in support of business retention and acquisition, and work with customers and distributors to determine their insurance‑related needs and provide solutions.

Support the organization’s sales culture by being a help point for agents, brokers and customers.

Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.

Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.

Qualify accounts to align with the organization’s appetite while balancing sound business opportunity.

Make broker/customer and on‑site calls with a planned and well‑prepared purpose.

Basic Qualifications – Executive Underwriter

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing area

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support

Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an associate degree and 3 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing area

Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an associate degree and 8 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support

Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business

Experience working in a team environment

Basic Qualifications – AVP, Underwriting Director

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing area

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an associate degree and 5 or more years of experience in underwriting or market‑facing area

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an associate degree and 12 or more years of experience in claims or underwriting support and experience with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree

Technical knowledge of commercial property underwriting

Established broker relationships (retail, select brokers) in Southeast region

Sales execution mindset

Creative problem‑solving skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $98,300.00 – $213,000.00, plus short‑term incentive bonus of 20%. For Executive Underwriter, proposed rate is $98,300.00 – $161,000.00 with a 15% bonus. For AVP, Underwriting Director, proposed rate is $130,000.00 – $213,000.00 with a 20% bonus.
