Plumber (Seasonal)
National Park Service – Join to apply for the Plumber (Seasonal) role.
The primary purpose of this position is to service all plumbing systems within the park. The typical seasonal entry‑on‑duty period for Rock Creek Park is April – September , though it may vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated entry on duty: beginning of April. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 12/15/2025, whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 pm (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance on all plumbing and mechanical equipment and parts.
Install, modify, and repair plumbing fixtures (bathtubs, showers, toilets, sinks, water fountains, and associated hardware).
Install, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on heating and cooling systems, including low‑pressure hot water and evaporative coolers.
Install and repair sewer drain systems (septic tanks, drain fields, sewage lift pumps, and related piping).
Clean gravity‑type sewage drain lines, repair or replace potable water lines, and perform connections and repairs to water mains and fire hydrants.
Pack valve stems, service check valves, flanges, altitude valves, gauges, and all pumping equipment used in water systems; install and repair submersible pumps and centrifugal transfer pumps.
Conditions of Employment
U.S. citizenship required.
Subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements for males.
Must participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
Must operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of official duties; a valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Driving Record are required.
Must wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.
May be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
May be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, or at least 16 years old with high school graduation or equivalent, or completion of a formal vocational training program, or a statement from school authorities, or be currently enrolled in secondary school and work only during vacation or part‑time under a formal student employment program.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Qualifications
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT). If this factor is not sufficient, no further consideration will be given.
Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprinting and reading).
Measurement and layout skills.
Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
Troubleshooting skills.

Volunteer Experience
Volunteer work, such as through National Service programs (Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations, is considered paid and unpaid experience. Volunteer experience will be credited toward required qualifications.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms; works in excavated holes in water and mud; subject to odors and irritants; requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions; frequently lifts, carries, and sets up equipment that may exceed 50 pounds.
Work is performed inside and outside in dirty, greasy areas; may occur in all weather conditions, including hot sun, rain, snow, and high winds; exposure to dirt, dust, spray, fumes, potential insect bites, and risk of injury.
These duties are not suitable for telework.
