About the Role The

Special Projects Division

of KPFF is growing and seeking an ambitious, initiative-driven

Civil Transportation Engineer

in Seattle or Tacoma, WA. You will work on a diverse range of heavy civil and industrial infrastructure projects, refining your expertise in roadway and transportation improvements on design‑build projects while also engaging in design, project management, and client service.

What You’ll Be Doing

Apply engineering expertise to diverse projects, collaborating with teams to devise innovative solutions in linear utility projects, street improvements, design‑build initiatives, and transportation infrastructure.

Contribute to projects involving waterfront and industrial developments, leveraging your skills to drive successful outcomes.

Assess risks and develop mitigation strategies to contribute to project success.

Ensure regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, understanding regulations and permitting requirements.

Identify and overcome challenges through innovative problem‑solving, using both traditional and modern engineering techniques.

Project Leadership

Assist in managing project tasks, ensuring efficient coordination of timelines, budgets, and resources.

Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

Mentor team members to support their professional growth and development.

Client Engagement And Exceptional Service

Foster strong client relationships by actively listening to client needs, providing clear communication, and delivering customized solutions.

Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering expert guidance and proactive support throughout all project phases.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification.

Minimum 4 years of full‑time experience in relevant civil/site development engineering design.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.

Advanced MicroStation, InRoads, and OpenRoads design experience required.

ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil3D and other engineering design software proficiency is a plus.

Strong knowledge of construction means, methods and techniques.

Experience preparing roadway/transportation design documents and specifications.

Additional experience on waterfront and industrial site infrastructure desirable.

Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Plans, Standard Specifications and Design Manual.

Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to work dynamically and effectively in a collaborative environment.

Enthusiasm for developing design and project management skills.

Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and exceeding expectations.

Physical Demands And Work Environment

Primarily office work requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer.

Occasionally lift objects up to 15 lbs.

Occasional site visits and field inspections involving walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.

Travel to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation Base salary ranges from $104,000 to $130,000 for qualified candidates with 4+ years of experience. Performance‑based bonuses are also offered. Detailed compensation and benefits information will be provided during the interview process.
