Storage Infrastructure Engineer – Storage & Backup Infrastructure Support Engineer Job Summary

The Storage Infrastructure Engineer will possess technical expertise and engineering skills and is considered a leading subject matter expert for designing technical infrastructure solutions involving Storage Hardware, Hypervisors, Storage Area Network, Network‑Attaching Storage, and Cloud solutions, with general knowledge of Servers and Networking. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring high availability, performance, security and compliance of storage systems, including active involvement in business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing.

Overview

This role is responsible for delivering advanced Tier 2 support for the organization’s storage and backup environments. The engineer works closely with cross‑functional teams to minimize service interruptions and maintain high data availability and integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Implement and manage storage solutions; design, deploy, and maintain Storage Area Network (SAN), Network‑Attached Storage (NAS), and cloud storage environments.

Monitor performance and capacity; track system performance and utilization to identify bottlenecks and forecast future capacity needs.

Administer large‑scale storage arrays, including zoning, LUN provisioning, and volume management.

Troubleshoot complex storage‑related problems, including connectivity issues, performance degradation, and data integrity errors.

Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and patching for storage hardware, operating systems, and related software.

Decommission hardware and manage lifecycle of storage equipment.

Administer enterprise backup software such as Veritas NetBackup; schedule and maintain backup jobs; ensure data integrity.

Perform data recovery operations and routine restore tests; investigate and resolve backup failures.

Act as a point of escalation for complex issues that Tier 1 support cannot resolve.

Requirements

5‑7 years of experience in storage and backup engineering or administration.

5‑7 years experience with modern storage solutions (NetApp, Dell, Pure) and cloud storage technologies.

5‑7 years hands‑on expertise with enterprise backup software (Veeam, Commvault, Veritas NetBackup).

3‑5 years experience in virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere.

5‑7 years experience with storage protocols (Fibre Channel, NFS, SMB/CIFS, S3, iSCSI).

5‑7 years experience with automation tools and scripting (PowerShell, Python).

5‑7 years experience administering Windows and Linux/Unix environments.

Experience with ticketing systems (Zendesk, JIRA) for tracking technical cases.

Excellent documentation, verbal, and written communication skills.

Ability to work peak, off‑peak, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Employment Details

Contract to Hire position based in Fort Mill, SC. Hybrid working environment.

Compensation

$40.00 – $70.00/hr.
